Special Seminar on the topic of “Pest and Disease Management in Cassava: CIAT’s Experience and Strategic Plans for Southeast Asia” conducted by Dr. Wilmer Cuellar

📍 Hub of Knowledge and Technology Center of Cassava funded by National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) collaborated with the Plant Pathology Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University organised the Special Seminar on the topic of “Pest and Disease Management in Cassava” conducted by Dr. Wilmer Cuellar who specialist from the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) in Colombia. This event was organised on 16th Jun 2025, at Vajiranusorn Building, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University.

Dr. Wilmer Cuellar shared valuable knowledge and insights on managing cassava diseases, which are major threats that reduce crop yield. These diseases are also subjects of ongoing debate regarding their actual causative agents, making them even harder to manage. Key diseases discussed include:

  • Cassava Frogskin Disease (CFSD) – caused by a virus
  • Cassava Witches’ Broom Disease (CWBD) – caused by the fungus Ceratobasidium sp.
  • Cassava Root and Tuber Rot – caused by various fungal species

📌 This seminar provided attendees with up-to-date knowledge on cassava diseases, enabling them to better understand and adapt to changes, and to be better prepared for future outbreaks.
